By Pastor Chris Oyakhilome
"For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace" (Romans 8:6 KJV)
When the Bible talks about the carnal mind, it doesn't mean a sinful mind per se, even though the carnal mind is prone to sin. A carnal mind means a mind that's ordinary; of mere human understanding; just normal human life.
The person who's carnally-minded, even though he's born again, reasons and acts like the natural man. He lives according to the senses. He's more attuned to, and concerned about the things of the flesh. The Word and the spiritual realities of the Kingdom hardly get his attention.
Now, the Bible tells us that to live that way is enmity against God (Romans 8:7); meaning that the carnal Christian walks at cross-purposes with God. He's not ruled by or subject to the Word of God; a state that leads to death—separation from everything gracious and divine! Why in the world should anyone live at such a base level?
Be Spirit-ruled and Word-governed. Refuse to be stirred by and attracted to fleshly things. The Bible says, "...they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh..." (Romans 8:5 KJV). What are the things that stir you up? Remember, where a man's treasure is, there will his heart be also.
You're after the Spirit if your affection, time and energies are focused on things pertaining to Christ, His Gospel, and the eternal life that He's given to us. So, let the Word of God control your values, ideas, opinions, choices and decisions.
CONFESSION
"I'm not moved by what I feel, see or perceive through the senses! I'm born again and full of the Holy Ghost, with the very life of Christ in me. Therefore, I'm not ordinary! My mind and affections are set on the Lord and things pertaining to Christ, His Gospel, and eternal Kingdom. Blessed be God!"
FURTHER STUDY
"Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever." (1 John 2:15-17 KJV).
"And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God." (Romans 12:2 KJV).
"If ye then be risen with Chrisit, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God. Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth." (Colossians 3:1-2 KJV).
